Relaxation Techniques

June 13, 2012 By TodaysTherapist

Relaxation techniques reduce negative emotions that build in the body and mind.

Relaxation techniquesNegative emotions build up in the mind in obsessive ways, and build up in the body in the form of tension. Have you ever noticed when you are obsessing about something, there is tightness somewhere in the body? The commonplaces are head, shoulders, stomach, and back. This relaxation technique that I’m going to show you will help relieve the tension in your mind and body. Before you begin the technique notice the spinning of the mind and the tension in the body. Then after you have completed the relaxation technique give the reduction of spinning and tension a percentage value. It might only be a 5 or 10% reduction in the beginning, but as you practice, the percentages of reduction will be greater.   This relaxation technique works even better, if you do it as preventative care on a daily basis, not just when you get stressed out.

This relaxation technique has roots in the meditation traditions. Therefore, it has been helping people for thousands of years.

This Relaxation audio is 19 minutes long

Begin by lying down or sitting in a comfortable chair.

After you have tried this, let me know.  I would like to here your experiences.  Many of the people to whom I have taught this meditation, continue to refer back to it throughout the day, taking a few extra conscious breaths  or remembering to relax the body.  A little awareness goes a long way.
